heartfelt lull rock

Hi shirley friends! check out today's The Philippine Star's Supreme Section page I-4: may nagandahan sa "sa madaling salita" the song and music video and talked about it in his column. Astig! Thanks Mr. Paolo Lorenzana!

"The crisp n airy ditty wafting from my car radio at the most opportune of times has made traffic bearable -- my head swaying and anxiety-ridden grip on the steering wheel loosening to such dandy day-sleeper music with the simplest yet most earnest of lyrics ("ikaw ang puso ko, dahil sayo dumadaloy ang dugo" ; the title says it all, i guess) --- but its video is just as refreshing amid the clutter of supposedly-high-prod-yet-looks-like-crap-anyway fare flung at us by the more established acts out there.

Obviously, Ang Bandang Shirley doesnt take itself seriously as today's more popular acts do and this resonates in its music as well as its visual accompaniment, bringing to mind all those great pop/rock video staples that come out in the early-to-mid 90s: Eraserheads' With a Smile was one, Teeth's Prinsesa..."

Napapagod na ako mag-type haha. Di ko pa nacheck kung available online yung column though haha i have uber slow isp connection.

So in connection with this: friends ituloy pa din natin ang hangarin haha!

MIAMI, JAPAN!

for the open-minded eclectic music-tasters among you who weren't there at saguijo last night, i IMPLORE you to go and catch miami at their philippine gigs, there's one tonight at club dredd in eastwood, and tomorrow they're going to be at mag:net bonifacio high street if i'm not mistaken. they are super. the very hot sarah marco of taken by cars fame said it perfect: KONICHIWOW.
haha.

i posted something a while back about watching the click five and imagining it was the cars, hahaha. lame, i know. miami reminds me of playing katamari damacy late at night when you're really sleepy and the katamari is getting big and the time is running out, except instead of just rolling things over there are two super super cute japanese girls bouncing around in front of you playing with a sampler, an electric violin, a rubber chicken, and (in saguijo's case) standing on top of the bass amp. and they camwhore, so bring your cameras!

if you can't watch them at a gig, check them out at their myspace: http://www.myspace.com/miamijapan

or check out the kind assault compilation that they're on, i dunno where to get a copy though. but i want one

'we're all pieces of meat' haha

The decision to tie-up with UFO pictures to promote the Jade Castro film Endo was a gift that just keeps giving. Sa Madaling Salita has had a load of airplay on the radio, and the video for it is such a loveable work of art, reminiscent of the pitch that Jade made to UFO pictures when he was proposing his movie: love on a budget.

I really can't believe where the band is now, considering that we formed the band just to be part of a school project in UP Diliman. Hearing a song that we began recording almost a year ago on the radio is such a strange thing, I remember almost breaking down in the studio while laying down the main guitar track because the drums were too fast, good thing we weren't videotaping the documentary yet. Speaking of the documentary, we're nearly finished doing all of our "cribs" segments, haha.

Monday night, we had a practice, with the band learning songs for an upcoming gig: starship's "nothing's gonna stop us now" and the wannadies' "you and me song". We're also on the way to perfecting the live versions of some of the album tracks that we normally don't play live, as we performed tracks 1 to 7 of the album in order at our recent Admit One gig at Saguijo. Exciting. hehe.

The NBA is also exciting, with Jason Kidd in Dallas, and Pau Gasol in LA, the new Cavs, the Bonzi-Bobby Jackson trade for NO, and all the other trade deadline things. Can't wait for the playoffs. If i only had Basketball TV haha.

In other news, we're also playing at the upcoming one night only reunion gig of Narda, March 6th at Saguijo. We might try to do our version of the Narda track "Saan Na" written by the attorney, and possibly another cover if time allows. Also check out the gig at Saguijo this thursday, february the 28th. Kind Assault brings Miami to Saguijo, with supporting acts like Spazzkid (LOVE YOU MARK!) and my current favorite band TWIN LOBSTER. The lobster (pronounced "LOB-STAH") are amazing. See to appreciate. Shirley won't be playing but i'll be at the gig playing groupie to Nick Lazaro and co.

stay nice
